XFX has debuted three graphics cards based on AMD Radeon graphics chip variants, dubbed "The Deadly Trio". The graphics cards in question are the XFX AMD Radeon HD 6670, XFX AMD Radeon HD 6570 and XFX AMD Radeon HD 6450, which are mainly targeting everyday computing.

The XFX AMD Radeon 6670 graphics card is meant for gamers as well as casual users. With DirectX 11 and AMD's HD3D 3D video technology, this graphics card is good to be used for gaming and ideal to be used to watch Blu-rays or immersive 3D movies. The XFX AMD Radeon HD 6570 graphics card is being touted to be capable of taking your daily routine to the next level with similar features as the first card, but at a lower speed and power consumption. The third graphics card is the XFX AMD Radeon 6400, which is for people who want to upgrade from on-board graphics for better overall system performance with the least power consumption, making it ideal for HTPC (Home Theatre PC).

Each of these graphics cards feature AMD's exclusive technologies including Eyespeed technology, which provides a vivid HD experience as well as optimizes everyday applications. They also feature Eyefinity technology, which enables the user to watch movies, play games and work on documents spread out on up to three displays for the ultimate panoramic perspective of work and play. AMD's APP Acceleration is yet another technology incorporated in these products, which harnesses the power of AMD's GPUs, with speed and better overall performance while utilizing everyday applications from Microsoft Office 2010 to web browsers like IE9 and Firefox 4. AMD s APP Acceleration includes advanced video features to enhance the video experience with pre and post-processing reduced CPU utilization and smooth, high-quality playback of HD and online video. Tablet Version Of Windows 8 To Be Coming In June?

We all know how major brands like Apple and others are well-established in the tablet industry. But Windows has been having a hard time catching up with them of late. Some may think, it s their inability to come up with a tablet OS that can compete with the standards established by Apple, Google. But if we look at it closely Microsoft has been spending so much time on Windows Phone 7 that they seem to have completely disregarded happenings in the tablet industry. But looking at the success of tablets, one would think it's inevitable that Microsoft would once again, make an entry into the market. And that seems very likely, now with reports suggesting that the Redmond-based company could be showing off the brand new Windows 8 tablet OS next month.

There is an All Things Digital D9 conference coming up next month which apparently will mark the arrival of Microsoft's new tablet OS. Steven Sinofsky, President, Windows and Windows Live Division, could be demonstrating the key aspects of the OS and at the same time give us some idea about what to expect.

Interestingly, this is not the first time that rumors about Windows' newest iteration are making rounds on the internet. Previously, some leaked UI screenshots of the Windows 8's desktop version were spotted, but this is the first time that we're looking at a tablet edition of the OS.

A few years ago, Windows based tablets weren't as rare as they are now. Tablets like the iPad and other Android and webOS-based tablets have certainly driven them out in a big way. But could this new set of Windows based tablets pave the way for what looks like a year of tablets? Well, given the market-share of Microsoft Windows, we think it could be quite a catch, provided the tablets are priced appropriately. Let's hope for a good tablet, because we Indians are very much comfortable with Windows' usability.

Toshiba Latest New Android 3.0 Tegra Tablet Soon

Toshiba will soon launch an Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet named "Thrive". The tablet was being advertised for pre-order at JR.com, but that advertisement has suddenly and inexplicably been pulled down at the time of filing this report. You can still view the Google Cache copy of the page over here. The price quoted was US$579, which is about Rs 26,200 - not bad for what is on offer.

Powered by a 1 GHz Dual core Tegra 2 processor, this 10.1-inch tablet sports a capacitive multitouch screen with pixel dimensions of 1280x800. This screen features Toshiba Adaptive Display technology, which adjusts the brightness and contrast to suit the surrounding lighting conditions; practically allowing you to use this tablet even in sunny weather. Adobe Flash support with hardware acceleration is present for an enriching web-browsing experience.

Along with a 5 Megapixel primary camera featuring Auto-focus, Digital zoom, and 720p video capture at the back, there is also a 2 Megapixel HD camera at the front for video calling. The HDMI output lets you hook up this tablet to your HDTV and watch movies on the big screen in 1080p (Full HD) resolution. Thanks to the Tablet's Resolution+ technology incorporated in this device, even Standard Definition (SD) video content is upscaled neatly with no details lost.

The tablet features, a GPS, an accelerometer and a digital compass helping pinpoint its exact location and motion. Even the battery is user-replaceable, which is something every consumer wants, but no tablet manufacturer obliges. This allows you to carry a second battery pack and replace the battery on-the-go if the tablet runs out of juice. Connectivity is taken care of by Wi-Fi (with hotspot capability), USB 2.0 (with one full and one mini-USB port) and Bluetooth. No mention is made of GSM connectivity, so that probably won't be available in this version at least. An SD memory card slot is also provided to augment the 32 GB internal on-board memory.

Toshiba has been delaying the launch of this tablet, and may further delay it to the third quarter of this calendar year. The launch date is therefore not clear. We must note that Toshiba has already launched the Portege 12-inch tablet in India, so we expect this to follow suit soon enough.

Asus launched new Thin & Light Notebook Asus U46, diagonal of 14 inches, a thickness of only 27 mm and great portability, but within a flexible and powerful hardware equipment. Chassis metal alloy with a thickness of 27 mm, weighing 2 pounds and 14 inches diagonal. As if that were not enough, then, will also have a battery that, according to the manufacturer it should provide up to 10 hours, obviously depending on the application that he will do during the day.
But rest assured thinking that a laptop so hardware should have a limited and poorly performing. It would indeed be based on Intel Huron River, then Sandy Bridge processors with Core i3, i5 and i7 also offering performance without compromise, thanks to their computing power and multimedia capabilities, which also ensure good flexibility of use.
How are the graphics subsystem Intel GMA 3000 HD, is usually included in CPU Sandy Bridge. There is also a keyboard to isolated elements, type USB 3.0 ports, a webcam and even a DVD Super Multi: a budget really interesting and thoroughly, especially if you think that everything is integrated in less than 3 cm in thickness.

Samsung RF712 3D Laptop Review And Price

The new notebook Samsung RF712 awaited by gamers and movie, the notebook has a Samsung 17-inch stereoscopic display and excellent hardware equipment. 3D is a technology that is slowly, but steadily, penetrating deeper and deeper in the entertainment industry and, after trying the experience of a video game or a movie in 3D, are certainly a few that came back. Consequently, major companies have started to offer high-end notebooks on the market with 3D screens and a budget hardware capable of running smoothly multimedia content. Among these brands could not fail to Samsung, the Korean big house, cutting-edge hi-tech.

Here is the new Samsung RF712 notebook, launched the first domestic Korean and finally now available in Italy. Obviously its main feature is the display. This is a 17.3-inch 16:9 aspect ratio LED backlit, Full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels). The display also, thanks to Samsung Super Bright Plus technology, has a high luminance of about 400 nits, and offers support for 3D in synergy with polarized glasses included in the bundle. Obviously, however, a 3D display is not enough to play in this mode it is necessary to have a powerful hardware, because such calculations to be played by the graphics card to display a title in 3D are almost twice the two-dimensional version.
We find then a quad core Intel Core i7 2630QM with clock rate of 2.00 GHz (2.9 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost) and 6 MB of L3 cache, a number of fast DDR3 1333 MHz RAM, expandable to 8 GB and a video card AMD Mobility Radeon dedicated HD6650M with 2GB of DDR3. The latter has 400 unified pipelines, frequency of 600 MHz for core and shader units and 900 MHz for the memory, and support for DirectX 11 API, Shader Model 5.0, OpenGL 4.1, 1.1 and OpenCL DirectCompute 11. The video processor is integrated UVD 2.2 and not 3, because the core is actually a renamed version of what already equipping the Radeon HD 5650. In any case, it is perfectly capable of hardware decoding a compressed video in all formats, including H.264, VC-1 and MPEG-2.
To complete the budget takes care of a mass storage up to 1.5 TB (two hard drives of 750 GB each, but not in RAID), Blu-ray, 1.3 Mpixel webcam and a number of I / O such as VGA, HDMI , 2 USB 3.0, and a multicard reader 4-in-1 (SD, SDHC, SDXC, MMC). Samsung RF712 3D technology also has Fast Start for fast start-up of the machine and PowerPlus, for the power management system for energy savings.
As a multimedia laptop then the audio could not be cured and in fact we find support for SRS Labs’ 3D technology, capable of recreating three-dimensional sound effects also from stereo audio sources. The Samsung RF712, which measures 415.8 x 276.1 x 32.3 mm and weighs 2.9 pounds, will be available from late May at a price of 1499 Euros.

Dell Vostro V130 - Intel CoreI3 Laptop Review

Dell wowed us with its Vostro V13 a year back with its sleek styling and aluminum finish; it was very stylish yet extremely functional. There were some minor drawbacks though like no HDMI port, few USB ports and a slightly underpowered processor. A year has gone by and Dell seems to have listened to our complaints (well, some of them at least) and have brought out a new model called the V130. The basic design and ergonomics have remained the same and Dell seems to have stuck to the philosophy, "If it ain't broke don't fix it" and has made some connectivity additions and upgraded the internals.

The Dell V130 is powered by a Core i3 ULV series 380UM running at 1.3GHz. It does not support Turbo Boost but it has Hyperthreading so it should be a bit faster than the older Celeron 743 which also ran at the same speed. The downside of the Core i3 is the higher TDP of 18W which can take a toll on the battery life which wasn't great to begin with. Other than that, Dell has still maintained the low 1.5kg weight and the comfortable keyboard. Let's see how much of a difference these new improvements have really made.

The design hasn't deviated much from the original and this time, we got a ruby red sample which looks really good. The matt finish has a sheen to it which doesn't attract a lot of finger prints and yet looks striking. The Vostro V130 now comes with three USB 2.0 ports instead of two and an HDMI port as well. What's missing is the Express Card slot which is fine since it's hardly ever used. The V130 now comes with a 4GB RAM by default and a choice of 320GB or 500GB 7200rpm hard drive.

The keyboard remains exactly the same and is very comfortable to use. The power button and the status lights have swapped places on the top for whatever reason. The 13.3-inch anti-glare screen sports a 1366x768 resolution which means images and video look sharp and clear.

Overall, the V130 is a nice little upgrade to the earlier V13 in terms of horsepower and connectivity is concerned. Now let's have a look at the performance improvement and more importantly, the battery life.

Performance

The keyboard is taken straight from the V13 so it's very comfortable to type on even for prolonged usage. The anti-glare screen means that it can be used even in sun light without much problem. The trackpad is smooth to use and the buttons have a soft press. On the multimedia front, we tried playing some 1080p flash videos after installing the new Flash Player 10.3 for Internet Explorer. Even though the CPU usage was only at 25 percent, the video wasn't very smooth; there was a slight hint of stutter. Since the onboard graphics is quite weak, we didn't even bother trying out any game. The speakers are not too great as well since there isn't any dedicated vent for sound.

Battery life
The battery is exactly the same one fitted in the older V13 which is a 6-cell 30Whr non-removable battery. In our 720p video drain test, the V130 lasted for 1Hr 47min which is a whole 25min lesser compared to the older model. This is mainly due to the higher TDP Core i3 CPU and possibly the 7200rpm hard drive. Under regular usage, the notebook gave us a slightly better 3Hr 15min of back up time which sadly is pretty average today and could have been a lot better. Since the battery is non-removable as well, you can't even upgrade it to a higher capacity one even if you wanted.

Pricing and Verdict

With prices starting at Rs. 37,290, it's similar to the older model. However, the V130 that we received would cost a bit more, we predict closer to 40K as Dell is yet to give us the final price. For this price, you can get better performing multi-media notebooks but that's not the purpose of the Vostro. The V130 is designed to be a sleek and durable business companion and it does exactly that. The build and finish of the V130 is what sets it apart from the crowd. The revised internals gives it a bit more grunt allowing you to watch HD movies with ease. The extra USB port and HDMI is a welcome addition and the anti-glare screen means it's very usable outside as well. It does not come without its flaws though, with all the changes made to the V130, the battery life has worsened which is quite an important factor. We also feel the pricing is a bit high for what you're getting.

Apple To Release Intel Sandy Bridge MacBook Air

Apple's MacBook Air is slated for an update in the coming few months. The 2011 refesh will feature the much delayed addition of Intel's latest Sandy Bridge line of processors. Intel's processors sport a smaller 32nm fabrication process that leads to a smaller die size and hence an even more petite MacBook Air. Any thinner and these puppies will slice off fingers. The new range is widely speculated to be clocked at clock speeds of 1.7 to 1.8 GHz, which can then be souped-up to 2.9 GHz with the turbo boost feature. While Apple has updated its MacBook Pro and iMac range with Sandy Bridge versions of Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors in dual and quad-core configurations, the MacBook Airs will most likely be dual-core. The Sandy Bridge line is also expected to carry over its remote wipe feature to the Apple platform.

Apple MacBook Air with Intel's Sandy Bridge

We had previously reported how Intel's embarrassing flaw in its Sandy Bridge line of processors had put a spoke in the wheels of Apple's plan to upgrade its MacBook range. While Apple isn't a stickler for delivering value to its customers, it's still embarrassing to demand the price of a healthy kidney for something that wheezes along on previous generation Core 2 Duo processors. The flaw affecting SATA based regular as well as SSD hard drives and optical drives has been corrected in the newer batch of Sandy Bridge motherboards, but the recalls had hit the MacBook Pro release schedule badly, which eventually released after some delay. There may be no official word out on the impending MacBook Air release, but the Sandy Bridge versions are expected to hit sometime around this June or July.
