ASUS B23E Notebook Review, Futures and Specification

ASUS B23E Netbook Review:
ASUS promises the 12.5-inch B23E to become a reliable business net book computer with good performance and user-friendly features. Our review unit comes complete using the type of hardware you'd get in a mainstream business desktop...with the exception of a small, 3.4-pound form factor. We have an Intel Core i7-2620M processor at 2.7GHz, Intel HD graphics, along with a 500GB Seagate Momentous hard disk at 7200rpm. Read our full review below to learn more!

Overview

Build & Design

The very first factor you will find concerning the ASUS B23E is it does not possess a particularly stylish design. It appears like every other standard business notebook - there is nothing outlandish about this - its soft black, and it has smooth matte surfaces. The key factor to pay for this is actually the quality, though, because this should be a durable business notebook that's basically the shape and size of the cheap net book computer.

And also at 3.4 pounds along with a small form factor, it's very portable. Additionally, it has pretty decent sturdiness without having to be heavier - ASUS states it's been dropped examined to resist "a lot more than double the amount drop height of consumer notebook standards." ASUS also states the hinge in addition to the lid panel happen to be examined to exceed consumer notebook standards. We want to indicate this is not someone notebook, though - it is a business notebook. That being stated, the only issue, we'd use the sturdiness was using the lid.

Whenever we pressed lower in a variety of spots around the chassis, we discovered that the B23E was solid - it barely budged. The coverage and chassis are generally created using a sturdy magnesium alloy construction. ASUS claims the keyboard can also be spill-proof which the hard disk has anti-shock cushions.

Whenever we bent the lid at its corners, however, the lid twisted effortlessly and ripples made an appearance over the display. It may be made from magnesium alloy, but possibly it is not quite thick enough. Although, as the second editor stated, whenever you press on the lid cover from the center, it does not show any noticeable flex. This can be a positive thing, while you most likely will not need to bother about the B23E's lid cracking pressurized from someone pushing their carry-on baggage to your net book computer around the plane, for instance.

Like the majority of net book computers, the B23E is not easily upgradeable. Customers can replace the wireless network adapter and upgrade the memory by getting rid of two simple covers from the bottom panel. It may hold no more than 8GB-1333 RAM.

Ports featuring

The ASUS B23E really includes a great port selection. The choice includes an actual Wi-Fi energy switch, a USB/eSATA combo port, Express Card and Smartcard visitors, along with 5-in-1 memory readers (SD/MS/MS Professional/xD/MMC). It has High-definition multimedia interface, VGA, fingerprint readers near the touch pad, along with a switch on-screen bezel to show your webcam off or on.

Right: ExpressCard readers, Smartcard readers, High-definition multimedia interface, USB 3, VGA, RJ-45 Ethernet, line-in (dial-up), a/c energy jack, Kensington Lock slot

Screen and Loudspeakers

The B23E includes a 12.5-inch matte display with Brought backlighting along with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The only really available resolution may be the low 1366x768 that is virtually the conventional for net book computers and notebook computers of the size. We measured a contrast ratio of 167:1. This is not surprising either, because of the small-screen coupling by using the truth that this can be a business notebook. You are able to tell the contrast is not exceptional within the photos below. We are glad ASUS made the decision to choose the matte surface for this though glossy, reflective screens are not as easy to operate on in vibrant office configurations. The viewing angles are extremely narrow throughout.

The B23E has VIA HD loudspeakers and motorists. The audio is exactly what you'd most likely expect: it does not achieve high levels and even though the definition is okay, that does not matter much whenever you can't listen to it that well. The amount levels might have been enhanced by placing the loudspeakers on top of the chassis instead of at the base from the net book computer. We'd recommend a great pair of earphones and/or exterior loudspeakers when the muffled seem to be really a nuisance. The motorists allow customers to make it possible for loudness equalization, seem equalizer, atmosphere modeling and room correction.

Keyboard and Touch pad

if you have bought a net book computer before and did not think an excessive amount of about the simplicity from the keyboard and touch pad and were disappointed by using it, you are aware how important it is to find one, which does not feel "cramped" and uncomfortable. If you are still thinking about the B23E up to now, you are fortunate: this Chiclets-style keyboard is excellent. It did not feel cramped whatsoever, most likely since the spacing between your secrets is well-proportioned. You will find devoted home, finish and page secrets. The laptop keyboard can also spill resistant featuring a fingerprint readers right from the touch pad. Most importantly off, the laptop keyboard is very quiet, which means you will not be annoying others inside your office or class while typing away.

The ELAN touch pad is not bad. We simply wish it were bigger. There's lots of horizontal space, that is nice, but a couple of inches of vertical space. It does not even seem sensible to really make it small - there's much space over the keyboard that might have been employed to make more room for that touch pad. We'll say, however, the usability is nice - the top is smooth matte, and our fingers slid regarding this very easily.
