The XPS 14z packs an acceptable array of input/output ports including mini-DisplayPort, HDMI, USB 3.0, and a slot-load DVDburner. I would prefer to see a standard size DisplayPort rather than the mini version which requires an adapter. There are only two USB ports on the whole notebook and just one of those is USB 3.0. I do however like how most of the ports are located on the back of the notebook.The XPS 14z was not designed with user upgradeability in mind; there are no user-accessible panels on the chassis bottom.
This is disappointing and a negative side effect of using a one-piece aluminum chassis piece.The design and overall quality of the XPS 14z were of paramount importance to the designers. Like the XPS 14z’s larger
sibling the 15z, the looks are reminiscent of an Apple MacBook Pro.

The stark silver exterior is solid aluminum and the darker-colored palm rest is magnesium alloy. The chassis bottom is largely one piece of milled aluminum which lends strength,this notebook feels solid as a rock.The hinge holding the lid to the chassis is strong and doesn’t allow the lid to wobble excessively. I wish the plastichinge covering was one piece and not three, however; this is the only part of the notebook that doesn’t sync with the rest of the design.

The 5920G  is definitely a good deal considering that many comparable models.The 5920G is unlike any previous Acer notebook. The laptop looks gorgeous and stylish with a pearl-white interior and shiny, reflective black lid that can be opened with a unique latch that doubles as a webcam.  The Aspire’s nicely rounded outline gives it a fairly soothing and unobtrusive look. Part of the interior design includes a couple of LEDs and linesthat seem to create an image of flowing water. The downside of the pearl interior, unfortunately, is keeping it clean inthe long run. As for the shiny lid, ugly fingerprints easily cover the entire surface. The 5920G is only offered with a glossy CrystalBright screen with WXGA resolution (1280*800).  This may be a disappointment for people who want additional screen real estate. On the other hand, personally I find this resolution to be perfect for a 15 inch laptop since anything higher makes everything stressful to see.

The HP Mini 5103 has a very business-like appearance with a squared-off chassis and rugged-looking brushed metal finish.Thedesign hasn't changed much over the years, first seen with the Mini 5101 and the 5102 earlier this year. The appearance is almost as if the small and medium-business ProBook 4520s was hit with a shrinkray and this was the result.Thebrushed metal finish holds up well to daily abuse, but it seemed to attract a few fingerprints without much effort.The inside has a rubbery dark paint covering the palmrest with a glossy black touchpad recessed slightly below the surface.The HP Mini 5103 offers an optional multitouch display with a WXGA resolution. For average day to day usage the screen is great for browsing the internet or writing documents without excessive scrolling. For accurate finger-input the smaller details can be troublesome, but with practice it gets easier to hit the smaller icons.

The new VAIO Y is a radical departure from last year's 13-inch Sony VAIO Y. I'm a little unsure why Sony doesn't just call this the "VAIO YB" on the official SonyStyle website, but despite the confusion over the model name this looks like another attractive Sony notebook. In terms of the overall size and shape, the VAIO YB has more in common with the VAIO W netbook than last year's VAIO Y. In truth, the new VAIO Y was designed to replace the Atom-based netbooks in Sony's lineup, and thankfully the VAIO YB has more to offer than those low-performance netbooks.The bottom of the notebook features a single access panel secured by three screws. Behind that panel you'll find the RAM and hard drive in case you want to make any upgrades. Granted, most consumers who purchase a $550 laptop like this will probably be content with the 4GB of standard memory and the 500GB hard drive.
