Kingston has released a new updated firmware to fix the Solid State Drive failure issue with the SSDNow V100. The company states that a very small percentage of drives is affected with the firmware glitch and recommends all users to download the new firmware. The updated firmware has been released by Kingston to fix the drive failure issue and it can be downloaded from here.
Most business class users and enthusiasts are currently making the best of SSDs that offer faster transfer & read speeds, are shock proof and consume less power. Though they are costly when compared to the current HDDs, they are still a preferred component for high performance computing.
Kingston's SSDNow V100 suffered from a flaw that led to drive failure. The problem was apparently a technical issue with the firmware and not the hardware. Basically, the systems with Kingston SSDNow V100 drives would hang at the System BIOS load up stage and thereby lead to boot failure. So the new update firmware D110225a aims to fix the issue and lets the drive run normally.
Take a look at which Kingston SSDNow V100 drives are affected and require a firmware update:
- SV100S2/64GZ, SV100S2D/64GZ, SV100S2N/64GZ
- SV100S2/128GZ, SV100S2D/128GZ, SV100S2N/128GZ
